Pool Q&A

Will Edgemont lose access to Anthony F. Veteran (AFV) pool?

Under current law, yes, on June 1 following the calendar year of Edgemont's incorporation.

Could the Town request an amendment to current law that would allow Edgemont AFV pool access?

Yes. The Town may wish to retain the revenue it currently receives from Edgemont residents who use AFV. To that end, the Town could seek an amendment to applicable law (Finneran) to allow Edgemont residents to pay for access to AFV, as it has requested in the past. For example, the Town obtained an amendment to Finneran in 2012 to capture revenue from the AFV tennis courts during non-summer months.

Further, the AFV pool was the subject of a 2010 engineering study that stated: "in many cases, equipment and systems have reached (or exceeded) their expected useful life." By maintaining Edgemont patronage at AFV even after incorporation, the Town would be able to spread the facility’s inevitable major capital improvement costs over a larger group of users.

Will the Edgemont Recreation summer camp lose AFV access if Edgemont incorporates?

Yes, but only if the Town treats the children enrolled in Edgemont Rec's summer camp differently from children in other youth recreation programs that utilize Finneran-restricted Greenburgh park facilities. For example, Village of Ardsley pre-schoolers who attend the Ardsley-based Rainbow Camp enjoy swimming access to AFV, while grade-schoolers in Tarrytown, Irvington, and Elmsford all utilize West Rumbrook Park for Elmsford Little League.

What other options does Edgemont have for swimming?

Westchester County offers nearby pools, listed below and here, that host Westchester day camps and would welcome the Edgemont Recreation summer camp. In addition, over time, the Village of Edgemont Board of Trustees may consider acquiring its own property for cultural and recreational activities such as a pool or community/senior center.

  • Tibbets BrookSaxon Woods, and Willson's Woods Parks are all approximately 15 minutes from Edgemont and collectively include a lazy river, wave pool, water basketball and volleyball, aquatic playground structure, and water slides.

  • Sprain Ridge Park re-opened in 2019 after a significant renovation. It has a kiddie spray park and large, zero-entry wading pool that can accommodate swim lessons. Sprain Ridge is about the same distance from the center of Edgemont as is Greenburgh’s AFV pool (approximately 2 miles).

Below are the pictures and locations of some Westchester County parks and pools that are available to Edgemont residents and the Edgemont Recreation summer camp.
